How to serve tea
|
|
1. First, greet the guest and place the tray with the cups
on it on the edge of the table. If there is not enough space on
the table, hold the tray.
Please note that you should not step on the tatami borders and the
doorsill when you walk through a Japanese-style room.
|
2.Place
the teacup on the saucer and serve it as it is. Use both hands and
place it on the left hand side of the guest (i.e., your right).
If the cup has a picture on it, turn it to the guest so that he/she
can appreciate it. If you also have some kind of confection, serve
it before you serve the tea. |
|
|
3.
When you have served the tea, it is recommended that you say "Please
enjoy the tea while it is hot." These few words will create
an atmosphere that will help your guests enjoy the tea. Bow and
retire from the room. |

How to drink tea
|
Bow and say,
"Itadakimasu" (meaning "Thank you for the food and
drink"). Remove the lid of the cup and place it on the table
with the underside facing up. Hold the cup with one hand and use
the other hand to support the bottom of the cup. If your lipstick
leaves a mark on the edge of the cup, it is recommended that you
wipe it lightly with your fingertips. |
